Trump welcomes start of Venezuela’s political prisoner releases
"Venezuela has started the process, in a big way, of releasing their political prisoners," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added that he hopes those freed would “remember how lucky they got that the USA came along and did what had to be done,” warning that forgetting “will not be good for them.”
Trump’s administration conducted a military operation in Venezuela on Jan. 3, capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, and announced it would "run" Venezuela and oversee its oil assets during a transition period.
He also stated Friday that a second wave of military actions against Venezuela was canceled due to improved cooperation. A U.S. team of diplomatic and security officials traveled to Caracas to evaluate the possibility of resuming embassy operations.
